Program Description:

As an employee or volunteer for a nonprofit organization, you have a role in financial oversight: to ensure that all resources are used to accomplish the mission. This presentation will provide an easy-to-digest overview of the importance of sound budget practices, and keys to reading and understanding financial statements and audit reports. The material presented will be useful for volunteers, program staff as well as directors and board members.

Description of topics to be covered:

  • What is budgeting and why do I care?
  • Why do we have to be audited? I am a very honest person?
  • How to read and understand a set of audited financial statements. This is not as boring as you think!

Meet our Guest Speaker:

Michael Frigo is the President and CEO of Mayslake Village, a 54-year-old low-income housing project in Oak Brook, IL where he has served since 1992. Previously he served as their Vice President.

Prior to working at Mayslake Village, Mike worked in public accounting with two international firms for fifteen years. Mayslake Village offers safe and affordable housing to over 660 residents. Mike manages all aspects of the facility including fund raising for their Spread the Health Program. A graduate of DePaul University, he has an MS in Non-Profit Administration and is a CPA.

He also teaches Nonprofit Finance at DePaul University in their School of Public Service Master’s Program.
